I just bought the Acer Aspire 7, surprised how little coverage it gets. It has the same specs as all those entry level gaming laptops but without the gaming laptop looks, which is great.

The screen sucks (I came from macbook air and even with it's low resolution it's way better) bit I'll be using it with an external monitor

Mine came with a 1tb hd, so I bought a m.2 SSD separately but I have no idea how to open this thing up and install it. The back panel site firmly in place even after remo the screws.

Hi, I haven't open this, but as far as I remember the back is similar to the Acer Helios 300 and you can find disassembly guides for that one online. You'd have to unscrew the entire bottom and try to pry it open with a CC or plastic tool, starting from the back.

hi, would you recommend it over the acer vx5 i7 gtx 1050 4gb? by the specs it seems better then the vx5 i must mainly use it for video editing but i would like to play games as well but i don't know if it is suitable for

I reckon that's the VX15 you're mentioning? I'm not entirely sold on the cooling used on this Aspire 7, so I'd probably stick with the VX15 is you can live with its design.

I am a Microsoft trainer and use this machine for presentations. There are flashier notebooks out there, but this one is the best in the matrix of expandability, price, speed and weight. I replaced the HD with a 2TB Samsung SSD, so I have 2.5TB of SSD. Not so many notebooks can have 32GB if RAM, which I need for Hyper-V. Fast 2400Hz to boot. With Ethernet and HDMI complete for the job. Does a great job for the money.

Its been 1 week i have bought this laptop . It has GTX 1050 Ti, 128 gb ssd . All i can say is i am depressed for not buying the dells g3 15 inch laptop . While playing fortnite in high settings .. the laptop heats so much in the top left keyboard .. its untouchable .. its like playing with a lava .. forget about the ultra setting in fortnite .. ur pc will explode .. i bought this laptop for 749$ . If u are a hardcore gamer .. this laptop is not for you ! if you are a light gamer who loves editing videos this is the best laptop .. but now the price is above 800$ . i recommend u to go with the DEll G series laptop .. it is far more good and affordable !

Hey, Dmarp i got few tips for your problem. Download Throttlestop, undervold the processor with about 100-120 milivolt (-100 or -120 milivolts), turn off the turbo boost and check the temps. It should not be getting that hot now. You can also buy a cooling pad and make the laptop much cooler.

You need to open the back panel and that will give you access to the M.2 slot

Amm then i'm gonna lose the warranty !
I think i will wait 2 years till it finish

Removing the back panel shouldn't void warranty, is there any sticker on top of any of the screws that says void if damaged? You can contact the local Acer support and ask about it, or you could get in touch with an authorized service to do it, having an SSD is going to have a massive impact on how the laptop performs and feels with everyday use.

BTW, this clip shows how to open the 17-inch Aspire 7 model, it's the same for the 15 inch version: youtube.com/watch?v=1knwZBByK2U .

Will you review the updated revision of this laptop? The model is A715-72G-71CT

I can't tell for sure at this point. Chances are pretty slim though, it's just a hardware update of the unit reviewed here.

I wonder if this model is better than the acer nitro 5 core i5 8300H with GTx 1050 Ti ?

      • Andrei Girbea

        November 21, 2018 at 7:51 pm

Better how? Performance should be about on par, but the Nitro 5 runs a tad cooler with games as far as I remember. We've reviewed both lines here on the site, the articles should help you choose between them.

Do you have new information on the ssd M.2 slot? Is it possible to put PCIe up to 4.0x in there?

Yes, it's possible to install a PCIe SSD. I have a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO running at 4x.

It doesn't heat too much, didn't undervolt the CPU yet (7300HQ)… Only played Assasin's Creed Odyssey that is very CPU demanding, will try Far Cry 5 soon. I lift the rear a bit when I play to get better airflow from bottom, and disabled turbo; CPU 85C max, GPU 65C max.

For comparison, had a HP Pavilion 15 Power with the same specs and ran very hot. In fact, overheated playing Odyssey in a summer day and never booted again :(

Hello, Does it support the line in connection with its combo audio jack? Headphone + line in, the combination that worked on PC before. Just with the cable spliter, which will allow both to be inserted into it and then plugged into the combo jack. Thank you for the review.
